Research Schools

Two research training schools, namely the International Research School for Media Translation and Digital Culture and the Translation Research Summer School, will be offered at Hong Kong Baptist University from 2025. The two research schools will taking place in June/July on alternate years.

The first edition of the International Research School for Media Translation and Digital Culture was launched in July 2019 at the Baker Centre for Translation and Intercultural Studies of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and and later organized by Shanghai International Studies University in 2021 and 2023. It focuses on researching translation in the context of digital (audiovisual) media and online spaces and is directed by Professor Luis Pérez-González and and Dr Kyung-Hye Kim.

The first edition of the Translation Research Summer School took place in July 2022 at the Baker Centre for Translation and Intercultural Studies of Shanghai International Studies University and took place in 2024. It offers a broad programme of research training and is directed by Professor Mona Baker and Dr Kyung-Hye Kim.

For each research school, a number of visiting staff will be announced.

Important Note: all applicants must submit a personal statement prior to registration. The statement (500 words) should outline the reasons for and scope of the applicant’s interest in the training offered by the School.
